Jason co-founded Emergence Capital and has spent the last 25 years backing leading entrepreneurs building enterprise cloud software companies. Emergence was an early investor in companies such as Salesforce, SalesLoft, SuccessFactors, Zoom, Veeva, Box, Bill.com, Yammer and Doximity among many others. Jason decided to step back from an active investing role to focus more on philanthropic activities and impact investing. Jason serves as Chairman and Founding Board member of Freeworld the leading second-chance employment organization serving the formerly incarcerated. He also serves on the Board of Impact Assets, the leading Donor Advised Fund supporting impact investors. He is also a Board Observer at Ignite Reading, the leading mission oriented early childhood literacy tutoring provider. Jason was selected as a DCI Fellow at Stanford in 2024. Jason was the Founding Chairman of the Kauffman Fellows Program as it was spun out from the Kauffman Foundation as the leading independent educational institute for venture capitalists. He was also a Founding Global Board Member of Endeavor, the leading global non-profit serving entrepreneurs around the world.

Jason grew up in Long Island, NY and attended Glen Cove High School. He studied economics and computer science at Dartmouth College. After graduating, he worked at Bain & Company in Boston and San Francisco and lived in Budapest, Hungary working for a Hungarian technology company. He returned to business school at Harvard and then was awarded a fellowship doing research in entrepreneurship with Professor Bill Sahlman. Jason then joined Venrock in New York with the Kauffman Fellows Program. He moved out to California in 1997 and joined US Venture Partners (USVP) where he became a General Partner. In 2002, he left USVP to found Emergence Capital where he has spent the last 20 years investing in many of the leading software entrepreneurs of this generation.

Jason is an avid tennis player and golfer, loves to travel, and appreciates fine food and wine (he recently attained a Level 1 certification as a Sommelier).
